American Visible Typewriter

1893

A product of the American Typewriter Company, this machine printed from rubber type on a slider. Controlled by a finger thimble attached to it, the desired character was printed by sliding the thimble over the corresponding character on a simulated keyboard and depressing it. Inking occurred when the type rubbed against an ink pad, hidden between the sliding type and the platen.
