Caligraph

Remington's first competitor, the Caligraph began life as a caps only model No.1 and was quickly replaced in its first year of production by the upper and lower case model No. 2. Its most unusual characteristic was a double keyboard set behind a panel in the front, closest to the typist. It is not certain if this was a "creature comfort" of the day, allowing space for a hand rest or was designed to allow longer key levers for greater leverage at the keyboard. Credited with its design were typewriter pioneers G.W.N. Yost and Franz X. Wagner.
