Edland

1891

The face of this primitive index typewriter displays "EDLAND", Manufactured by the Liberty Mfg. Co., NY and Patented July 14, 1891. The Edland was an inexpensive index typewriter, printing from a metal daisy wheel and inked by two ink rollers hidden beneath it's covers. A lever was used to select the desired character and then depressed to print. Cast from soft white metal and extremely fragile, the Edland was easily damaged and because of this few have survived.
