Hall Typewriter

Invented by Thomas Hall of Brooklyn, NY this typewriter was among the first of a long procession of index typewriters to become successful during the early years of the typewriter industry. It was operated by sliding a pointer over a letter on an index plate causing a square plate of rubber type to move to the correct character to be printed. The actual printing was accomplished by depressing the rectangular top plate downward. The Hall typewriter was housed in an attractive walnut case.
