Lambert

1900

Invented by Frank Lambert of New York, it was reported that this machine took its inventor seventeen years to perfect. It uses few parts and was operated by depressing the desired character on the pivoting top plate causing the corresponding character on a lower plate to be moved to the printing point. What appears to be a platen is actually a take-up roller for the paper passing through the machine.
