The Morris
1886
Invented by Robert Morris, this index typewriter was manufactured by the Hoggson & Pettis Manufacturing Company of New Haven, Connecticut.
Printing on the Morris involved moving the entire index plate and placing the desired character beneath the arched pointer at which time the index plate was
depressed to print the corresponding character onto paper. Other characteristics include a white platen and an attractive lattice base. The name designation "The Morris" is included on this example.
