Travis
Typewriter
Philadelphia Typewriter
Company
- 1895 -
The Travis typewriter was invented by typewriter pioneer, Byron
A. Brooks and marketed by the Philadelphia Typewriter Company in the 1890s.
It was a type wheel design with a four row keyboard, using a ribbon for
printing. One noticeable characteristic is burgundy paint on various parts
of this typewriter, certainly unusual for this period in the typewriter
industry. The Travis was a well manufactured writing instrument, superior
in quality to many other typewriters of its day, however, it was a failure
almost from the start and few were made.
